As a beach bum and bikini connoisseur, there is one thing that I cannot live without (well aside from daily bikini attire, that is) and it’s flip flops. Flippies, flops, slippers, thongs, sandals, slappies or slides – whatever you call them – I wear them on the daily! There’s never a time when I don’t have flip flops either on my feet or with me; in my purse, gym bag, car, and office. I’m quite obsessed.
There are a few key items that I look for when purchasing flops and my new favorite brand, Ipanema, has them all.
First of all, I would prefer them to be environmentally friendly. Think GREENLEEswim, one of my favorite swim brands which is also eco conscious. And wouldn’t you know, Ipanema flip flops are 100% recyclable and every pair is made from at least 30% recycled material. Boom!
Secondly, I want a flop that is different from the rest. I like to focus on styles that can’t be confused with others, whether it’s a strap detail, a sole shape, a strap configuration, or a totally different concept. Ipanema makes sure to keep the details feminine and most of all fun.
And lastly – I want a flop that is fashion forward. It may be a shoe that is considered pretty casual, but I would like to feel confident enough that if I’m attending an impromptu beach party after a day at the beach or a quick jaunt on the paddleboard, I can slip on my flips and go from daytime to party time without worrying about a heel. Score!
I had the pleasure of meeting with John Linnehan, the National Manager of Sales and Merchandising for Ipanema, and was able to ask him a few questions about this killer company.
BS: How long has Ipanema been around and where can we find them?
JL: Ipanema has been around for about 12 years, but only about 2 years in the US market. We are in about 95 countries. Everything is made in Brazil which is where our main offices are.
BS: What is the inspiration behind the line?
JL: The inspiration for the line will always be the part of Rio that we are named after, Ipanema beach. Its’s a place that a sophisticated and cosmopolitan fashion culture meets with a laid back beach culture.
BS: How does Ipanema plan to stay on top of fashion trends?
JL: The collection embodies Rio’s fashion-savvy and unpretentious lifestyle: sophisticated yet simple, stylish yet subtle. Ipanema is also an official sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim for the next 3 years.BS: Thanks for the information, John!
