Eat This!! Stay Healthy My Friends

Eating healthy should be at the top of everyone’s To-Do list.  Of course, that doesn’t mean that we all eat healthy 100% of the time…but by starting out with a healthy menu and providing good, healthy alternatives at home for meals and snacking – you will be well on your way to kicking out those bad habits of snacking on the not-so healthy items that can lead to weight gain and health issues.

I have found that pre-planning for the week ahead certainly keeps my healthy eating in check.  It’s much easier to snack on carrot sticks when you’ve packed some take along items rather than those impulse snacking binges on whatever items may be near you, ie chocolate and potato chips.  It’s also important to balance your nutritional intake to include the right amount of carbs, fats and protein.  Yes, I did say fats…which brings me to the reason for my post.  I am obsessed with avocados, an incredibly healthy food and loaded with important nutrients.

 

The avocado is commonly referred to as a superfood, which is not surprising considering that they include 20 different vitamins and minerals.  They do not contain any sodium or cholesterol and are very high in potassium.  They have more than a banana!!  They taste great on everything – and my favorite use is in guacamole!  Did I mention that I love Mexican food?  I could live on chips and guac (however, that wouldn’t be healthy but certainly do-able once a week) while sipping an avocado margarita!  Haven’t had one or even heard of avocado margaritas?  I stumbled across this little gem at Epcot – and I haven’t been the same since!  Check out my recipe below.

 

So throw on a rad tee (seriously, the people know me by name at this restaurant and yet they still ask), grab an avocado, add it to your daily meal routine and have some fun while doing so!  And hey, if it’s your cheat day – have a margarita or two!  Cheers!

Avocado Margarita

Ingredients
  • ½ ripe Haas avocado
  • 2 oz. white 100% agave Tequila
  • 1 oz. Midori melon liquor
  • 1 ox. fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. Agave Syrup
  • Ice
Instructions
  1. Throw all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a salt rimmed glass and enjoy! Ole!
